I'm approaching a significant birthday. This weekend I will be entering a new decade.
Age has never bothered me, my own or anyone else's. I don't mind getting older, I'm delighted to have the opportunity. But it has made me think a lot about how I'm living and what I'd like from the next decade of life.
I've also been reflecting on the decade I've just lived. It has been tough and it would be easy to see it as a decade of pain and sadness and confusion, but it turns out that that's not actually true!
I made a list.
A list of all the good things that have happened and come out of the last 10 years, and there are a lot! Even just listing the big things required me to turn the page, and I didn't even get on to listing all the small ones. It was such a lovely thing to do and I feel very differently about the last few years now. They have been good in so many ways and I'm stronger, more grounded, more compassionate and more myself as a result. There has been a lot of joy and I've been the recipient of so much kindness and generosity. I feel hugely grateful.
So I will be celebrating it all, and looking forward too to the next decade of life.
Being me, it will be a very quiet celebration and I'll actually be behind a cold market stall for the majority of it. But I thought maybe a virtual tea party might be fun!
You are all invited and it's very simple. All you need to do is to make/buy yourself your favourite foods this weekend and make it an occasion - set the table nicely, take your time, have some fun... Balloons are also appropriate! Treat yourself (in moderation if you're dieting!) and join me in celebrating all the good things in life. And if you want to email me a photo of your favourite food (or even yourself in a party hat!) then please do. Photos are optional but it would make my day!
Happy celebrating! 🎈
